ABOUT AMANDITITITA: myspace.com/amandititita

THE ANARCHUMBIA QUEEN - Anarcumbia definition: Anarchist cumbia, sarcastic satire of everyday life. Amandititita definition: A very short form for her name, Amanda Escalante. Born in Tampico,Tamaulipas, Mexico on the third day of August,l979. Studied at SOGEM The General Society of Mexican Writers and later on at Escuela Dinámica de Escritores (Dynamic School of Writers), directed by Mario Bellatin. Among her teachrers were Elsa Cross, Daniel Sada, Sergio Pitol, Hugo Arguelles and Guillermo Fadanelli. She studied Drama with French teacher Phillipe Eustachon and performed at the Mexico City Museum and Ollin Yoliztli Theater. She writes stories and novels but for the time being she writes songs, and performs them with colored crinolines.

At 14, she started writing poetry and stories. But her appearance in the world of music was only five years ago. Lyrics were written on napkins due to the lack of a computer and over karaoke tracks she placed the lyrics. With these simple songs she sang in different places in Mexico and Europe. Until she found a piece of paper that read “If you have lyrics but you are missing the music... Call now!” She called, and behind the phone speaker she found a composer that for 600 pesos made the music for METROSEXUAL, LA MATA VIEJITAS, LA MUY MUY, LA MICROBUSERA and others. At the time she was living in a single room on the top floor of a building, but in Condesa. She made 3000 pesos a month working in an advertisement agency, spent 2000 on rent, and had to manage how to make ends meet, buying food, and saving to pay for the music of her songs.

All a social phenomenon. Relentless fighter for freedom of speech. Her songs have urban themes, with a hidden social criticism. Her songs tell about the slums, the dark side of Mexico, places that generally do not inspire to make a song, like a government office where the secretary who is in love with the manager, (Viernes de Quincena), the frustrated wife with a drunk husband, (A Chingar Te Vas), or a nurse that kills old ladies, or a dark skin woman that wants to be blonde to be on TV (La Güera Televisa), or the typical man who extremely worries about his body, (Metrosexual). Amanditita is inspired by the everyday news. Her songs are played on commercial radio stations, in La Que Buena and Exa, because her lyrics are rock but her music is cumbia, it is a popular product.

ABOUT JUAN SON: myspace.com/juansonmusic

Juan Son began his musical journey at a very early age:” I remember my first band, named Knuvo… it was a pop rock group and it was my first shot at being the lead singer of a band,” recalls Juan with a mischievous tone. A few years later, Juan Son traveled to England to study music at the London Center of Contemporary Music. “I have very fond memories of that part of my life… I had several musical projects going on with people from all walks of life (French, Australian, Mexicans, etc)… that made everything so much more interesting. The projects were called Novocaine and The Care Bear!”

After a year experimenting in England, Juan Son returned to Mexico and Porter was born… “Porter actually began prior to me leaving to England, but it wasn’t after I returned from Europe that we started working 100% on it and molding it. ”Porter lasted 4 years and during this time they released an EP "Donde Los Ponys Pastan" (Where the Ponies Graze) and a full album “Atemahawke". Their unique style and approach to music led to them to being invited to participate in such important festivals as Coachella and Vive Latino.

With the demise of Porter in 2008, Juan Son began working on solo projects and February 2009, he released his debut album titled Mermaid Sashimi, which has received critical praise… Mermaid Sashimi is composed of songs that were written before and during his time with Porter. Unlike the music that catapulted Porter’s performances before massive audiences at Coachella and Mexico’s Vive Latino, “Mermaid Sashimi” is a more organic approach at expression that strays from traditional guitar- and drum-driven beats. In this album, music samples created by ambient effects and sounds are enhanced by Juan Son’s trademark ethereal vocals.

NACOTHEQUE BACK TO DOIN’ IT OLD SKOOL

An Official Announcement from Nacotheque Producers and Resident DJs
AMYLULITA & MARCELO CUNNING

Amylu Meneses & Marcelo Cunning via 2006 @ Cake Shop NYC

NEW YORK, NY - After two years of awesome nights every second and fourth Saturday at Fontana's in NYC the producers have decided to go back to doin’ it old skool. Originally Nacotheque was a mobile, underground, alternative Latin dance party in NYC where producers Marcelo Cunning and Amylu Meneses put together special one-off parties wherever and whenever. After about a year and half of club hopping Nacotheque was invited to start a bi-month party at Fontana’s and called it home ever since. After October 2009 there won't be anymore pre-scheduled monthly parties at Fontana's.

“We’re not ending Nacotheque. Just going back to doing it when there’s something special to celebrate like an album release party that we really love or an after-party for a band we love.” Says Amylu. The producers will be taking this time to focus on other projects as well as catching up on some much needed sleep. "Thanks to everyone that has supported us in our 3+ years of existence. We've met lots of amazing people and we have nothing but good memories behind the parties. But don't fret, it's not the last you've seen of us." Says Marcelo.

The last four official monthly parties at Fontana’s will be on Saturday, September 12th - the official Hello Seahorse! “Bestia” album release party with guest DJ Carlos Tropicaza (Los Fancy Free), Saturday September 26th - TBA, Saturday, October 10th - special live performance by the leader singer of Porter JUAN SON, and October 24th - the Nacotheque Halloween Costume party with a very special live performance by Mexico City’s reina of anarchy cumbia AMANDITITITA. She’ll be filming scenes for her next music video during the party!

Again, we repeat Nacotheque is NOT ending!! The Nacotheque producers will continue planning special one-off parties in NYC when the time is right; continue participating in special gigs out of town, as well as starting up some other fun projects. Stay tuned!
